Clara Diaz-Leal

With more than three decades of banking experience to this top position, Diaz-Leal oversees all of Miami-Dade branch activities related to deposit and loan growth, and leads the implementation of strategic and annual plans. She joined BankUnited in 2016 from SunTrust Bank in Miami, where she served as senior vice president and business banking team leader. Other experience includes working for Wachovia Bank/Wells Fargo for 25 years in various leadership roles.

Diaz Leal is active in the community, currently serving on the board of the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Women’s Society.


 Previously on the board of Women's Fund, non-for profit organization that raises funds to make grants to organizations that address the unique needs of low-income women and children- 2009 to 2013.

 Board of BAC Funding, non-for Profit Corporation to provide lending to inner city businesses-2004 to 2010

 Chairman of United Way Campaign for Miami-Dade (Wachovia Bank) -2007

 Co-Chair of United Way Women's Leadership Breakfast- 2004 thru 2006

Diaz-Leal was born in Cuba, but moved to Miami Beach at the age of 6. Clara currently lives in Surfside with her husband Steven. She has 3 daughters and 3 grandkids.

Clara holds the rank of 3rd degree black belt in Taekwondo.

In her free time Clara enjoys the beach, cooking and spending time her family.
